Welcome to our Participants FAQ page! See below for answers to the questions that participants most frequently ask about their Digital Diaries experience.
I Never Got A Login Password
In your initial welcome email you should have been provided a temporary password to log into the platform to set your permanent password. If you haven’t received it, email your moderator. They will provide it.

I Forgot My Password
On the login page, there is a retrieve password link below the password dialog box. This will email you a link to change your password.
Why is the Activity still in my To Do List? I submitted it, and it is now blank!
This is a re-occurring activity and will reset every day for you to fill out again. This type of activity requires answers every day until the study ends.
The Moderator For My Project Said They Sent The Invite Email But I Never Got It
- Check your spam folder for an email from studyspace.net
- Make sure your moderator has the correct email for you in the system
- Talk to your moderator about creating a password for you. With that and your email you can log into the app and/or website.
When Can I Expect To Get Paid?
The Forsta support team handles all technical questions having to do with the Digital Diaries platform (studyspace.net).
That being said, Forsta is completely independent of the company conducting your study--we simply troubleshoot the platform they utilize. If you find that your compensation is later than expected, you will need to get in contact with your moderator(s) on the study, as we do not have any way of knowing the status or situation involving your compensation or payment.
Possible options for contacting your moderator(s) include:
- The Digital Diaries message system
- The contact details you were provided with when coordinating your involvement in the study
How Do I Get The App For My Mobile Device?
Like any app on Android and iOS, you can do so by visiting the app stores and searching for "Digital Diaries." There are also clickable links included in the invite email that will take you directly to the app in the iOS and Google Play stores.

Go to www.studyspace.net to take part in the study.
How Do I Add A Photo To My Discussion Activity?
To add a image to your Discussion response, select the "camera" icon on the right of the response text box.
A file explorer window will open. Find the photo you wish to upload and select Open.
Once you have completed these steps, your photo will have been properly uploaded. Don't forget that you can still add text if you would like to explain what is happening in your photo.
I Uploaded my Video but the Moderator says it’s Showing Up Blank
If you are using an Apple device and downloading images to a computer, two files will appear. One is the video file and the other is a reference file for Apple systems. You can tell them apart by the name. There will be a "._" before the name in the reference file. Make sure you are uploading the video file, NOT the reference file.
I’m Trying to Upload a Video with the App but it's Stuck on "Pending"
You are likely going between locations and had a connection issue. If while you are trying to upload the video you leave a wifi connection or are driving and go between towers it can cause the "pending" issue. To fix this:
- First force close the app (if you don’t know how to do that restarting your phone will do the same thing).
- Use your phone to recapture the video. This should be done outside of the app just in case you have issues uploading again.
- Connect to wifi to upload your video in the Digital Diaries mobile app. If wifi isn’t available then make sure to do it when you are planning on staying put.
How Can I Get Photo, Video, or Audio Files From My Phone Onto My Computer?
iPhone Users
Please visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
Once you get your photo, video, or audio file(s) to your Desktop, go to the Digital Diaries website, log in using your credentials, and upload to the activity of your choice.
Android Users
You can use these instructions to get media onto your computer from your Android device:
- Connect your Android phone to your computer using your USB cable.
- The critical step: On your Android phone, pull down the notification window (aka "window shade") and tap USB connected.
- A notification window will appear. Tap Mount. Your phone will enter USB storage mode.
- Find the removable storage drive. On a PC, navigate to My Computer and look for a new removable storage drive. On a Mac, the drive will appear on your desktop.
- Open the DCIM folder, and find, then Drag-and-drop the video to your desktop.
- In your phone’s notification window, tap Turn off USB storage.
- Unplug your phone and you’re all set.
Once you get your photo, video, or audio file(s) to your Desktop, go to the Digital Diaries website, log in using your credentials, and upload to the activity of your choice.
The Upload Speed Seems Very Slow
Slow upload speeds are most likely due to a slower connection on your end. You can let the upload finish and then check that your submission was succesful. On mobile, you can try connecting to Wi-Fi, as that is sometimes faster than using your cellular data connection.
